WM6.5 for MW700 - a success story

hi guys

i have been looking for some kind of upgrade for my MW700 gsmart fon.. its been almost 6 months since i was searching for any kind of EXTroms available .. i might have to say that i have finally upgraded my mw700 to WM6.5 build with touchflo ..
tell you what its so much better than wm6.0 .. and guess what its faster .. and more intuitive ..

i am just putting up this here so that others can also get some fun out of this .! :evil:

i would be looking forward to your comments and based on that i shall share in total how i went about in doing this ..

Hello there

It so happened that Microsoft released a new version of windows mobile 6.5 beginning of last year followed by announcing that they will release windows mobile 7.0 end of 2010.

I was wondering how i could see this operate on my device.. did some extensive search on the internet for the upgrade available for MW700 & found a Russian rom .. so thought what the hell lets see what happens if i flash.. ( no pain no gain )
went ahead and flashed it with the russian rom and walah..my fon turned into a winMo 6.5_rus .. not bad .

ok now enuf of this story crap .. i will tell u how to flash your existing WM6.0 MW700 to WM6.1 or WM6.5 .. ( i am now using a image of WM 6.5 CE build 21822 )

and it looks something like this.

keep in mind we are actually flashing MW700 with a image ROM of a very similar device called the MWg Atom V.
you can compare them here .. the hardware is almost the same and thats why this rom actually works.

Things needed :

1) Device Gsmart MW700 along with 1gb or 2 gb micro SD memory installed and batteries charged to above 60%.
2) USB cable connected to the PC to copy the files to the micro sd card, etc
3) ROMs and radio updates. links below

Original Radio for MW700 : MW700 Radio updates ( right click save as on the GBCQ6235_090701_1016 (version 1.0.1.6 / 1 Jul 2009) )

I hope i haven't missed anything . this should let do the upgrade..

Ohh almost forgot .. you will loose all your contact / other details from the fon.. i wud suggest one should back them up somehow.. either copy all ur contacts to the SIM .. i did this mistake so i kind of lost all my contacts.

Lets do this:

1) Unzip the rar ROM file from megaupload link to a folder say call it WM6.5 ( u sud see a file extension with.nb0 along with folder called Extrom or something )
2) Unzip the radio zip file to this folder ( i think its 7z.zip format.. winrar should do the job.. this will result in a .IMG file )
3) Unzip the logo file i have attached to this folder ( .bmp file )
4) copy the content of this folder to micro SD card
5) read the upgrade manual to enter the engineering mode .. (shutdown the fon, presse and hold the volume button and power button down) its clearly given in the PDF file.
6) let the fon do the stuff this can take upto 5-10 mins .. you should see all happening & when the screen says remove the battery only then remove & restart the fon !!
if this is not followed you mostly & will landup with a BRICK

7) you should have WM6.5 on your fon.. follow the instruction.. go to setting and change the language to English is required..
8) you may want to install some additional applications as per your needs.. let me know if anyone of you needs some recomendations ..
9) last but not least enjoy :)

i have been using this rom for 2-3 days now .. seems quiet stable and am happy
Also the performance of the fon has increased.. the audio is improved a little .. so its ++

PS : any credit, give it to me since it seems that i am the first person to flash this fon with a Winmo 6.5 Rom .. over the internet.. ohh i forgot about the Russians :) they rock !

I installed it and it seems to be good!
I like also touchFlo.

I have only one problem, I can't see the battery status in the top-right of the screen, how can I enable it? otherwise, is there any other way to know it?

go to clock settings and remove the setting " display at the top of every taskbar" this will enable u to show the battery..

glad u tried it .. i guess its much better now ..the phone gets a new life ..

i have a russian firmware upgrade too .. as in russian radio upgrade.. it is suppose to make the some more improvements.. let me know if u need it ..

Free: 22.01
